Vortex lattices

Vortex lattices appear in Type-II superconductors when a magnetic field is applied.  They can be a very sensitive probe of the underlying superconducting parameters such as the magnetic penetration depth and the superconducting coherence length, and we use this to explore a variety of superconductors.

Transition metal dichalcogenides

These materials are typically highly two-dimensional layered materials.  In NbS2, we have measured how the vortex lattice distorts as the direction of the magnetic field is rotated, and are able to describe the behaviour extremely well using anisotropic London theory - the first time this has been shown over the complete angle range.
